BAD AXE – A woman was inside a Dodge truck when it caught fire this week.
At around 1:15 p.m., on Tuesday, May 21, the Bad Axe Fire Department was dispatched to a home on South Port Crescent Street in Bad Axe. A 1998 Dodge 1500 was fully engulfed in the driveway. The department responded with eight firefighters, an engine, a rescue truck and the chief’s vehicle.
Chief Dave Peruski said Ariana Caczor had been inside the truck when her boyfriend, Brett Deering, went inside to retrieve something. Peruski said she was sitting in the truck when she heard a loud bang. She shut the truck off and noticed smoke coming from under the hood.
Caczor exited the truck while a fire started inside the engine and moved to the cab area, Peruski said. The department spent around a half hour extinguishing the flames. The truck is a total loss, though Peruski noted the truck was insured. There were no injuries.
Bad Axe fire was assisted by the Huron County Sheriff’s Office and Bad Axe Police Department.
