Kids First of Huron County hosting free dinner

BY CHRIS OGRYSKI EDITOR

BAD AXE – In 2001, the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse (CASA) at Columbia University created Family Day, because their research showed that the more often children eat dinner with their families the less likely they are to smoke, drink or use drugs.

With that in mind, Huron First of Huron County will be hosting their fourth annual Family Day Celebration for children and their families on Monday, September 21, which will include a free family meal at the Franklin Inn. Doors will open at 5 p.m. with dinner being served at 5:45 p.m.

Entertainment for the evening will be provided by the Buggs and DJ by Steven Johnson, while there will also be a story for the entire family and a drawing for Saginaw Spirit hockey tickets.

Reservations for the event are required, because seating is limited. To register call June Schweitzer at (989) 453-3291.

Kids First of Huron County believes that parental influence is one of the most crucial factors in determining the likelihood of substance abuse and underage drinking by children and that parents are the first and most important role model in a child’s life.

They also believe that family dinners have long constituted a substantial pillar of family life in America.

Family Day Celebration is sponsored by Huron County Child Abuse and Neglect Council, United Way, JW Hunt, Harbor Beach Community Hospital, Scheurer Health Care Network, Huron County Great Start Collaborative, Huron County Great Start Parent Coalition, Huron County Health Department, McDonalds Food and Family, MSU Extension, Huron County Head Start, Sonshine Kids Day Care Center, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Pigeon Chiropractic, State Farm Insurance, Mary Otto, Thrivent Financial-Fred Kalis, Cross Lutheran Schools, Heavens Little Angels, Usborne Books by Renee, Red Roosters Creations and The Saginaw Spirit.
