Janis Stein publishes book of short stories

Local author Janis Stein announces she has compiled many of her columns in a 230-page paperback book, Musings of a Country Girl, a charming collection of short stories written from the heartland of smalltown, rural America.

Stein, born and raised in Huron County, is the Assistant Editor of The Lakeshore Guardian, a freelance writer, and the owner of Stein Expressions, LLC, a Michigan company dedicated to writing memoirs and preserving history, one story at a time.

Stein also has written articles, book reviews and stories for many Michigan publications, including The Deckerville Recorder, The Great Lakes Mariners, The Huron Daily Tribune, Huron Shore Magazine, The Minden City Herald, and Tri City Magazine.

Stein says Musings of a Country Girl was created to enchant, amuse and inspire; it’s the perfect book for everyone who loves a good story.

The first section, Countryside Yarns, contains incredible truths and captivating tall tales spun and shared by an eclectic mix of storytellers. From Jackson and Annie McFrie to a historic small-town murder mystery, a century later, a curious few still ponder the reality of these bizarre backwoods legends over shared cups of coffee and with whispers over back yard fences.

The second section, Heartstrings from Home, contains inspirational stories designed to make the reader laugh and cry, along with the memoirs of a country girl who shares her nostalgic journey growing up and raising a family in the country. In her heartfelt style, Stein captures the reader and doesn’t let go.

Stein and her husband, David, along with their daughters, enjoy the tranquility of country life in Michigan’s Huron County.
