Jack C. Kapanka
Jack Calvin Kapanka, 81, Bad Axe, passed away Monday, September 7, 2009 at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak.
He was born October 10, 1927 in Port Huron to the late Hugo and Iva (Bascom) Kapanka.
On September 1, 1951 he was united in marriage to Donna Jean Davis, daughter of the late Frank and Lillian Davis at Trinity Lutheran Church, Port Huron.
He enjoyed camping, hunting, boating, scuba diving and most of all spending time with family and friends.
He served with the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II as a paratrooper. Jack was employed by Detroit Edison for 35 years before retiring in 1986.
He was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Bad Axe. He was the Boy Scout Master for Troop # 504 in Bad Axe for 25 years. Jack was decorated with the Silver Beaver Award and had 75 young men achieve their Eagle Scout Rank during his years as scout master.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Donna; two daughters, Connie (Charlie) Knuth, Harrison Twp. and Karyl (Carl) Murray, Clinton Twp.; one son, Gerald (Amy) Kapanka, Cedar Falls, Iowa; twelve grandchildren, Michael (Beth) Boldt, Nicholas Boldt, Kristen and Amanda Murray, James, Nikolette, Jakilyn, and Alexis Kapanka, and Charles, Kelly and Kasey Knuth; two great-grandchildren, Camryn and Andrew Boldt; one sister, Betty (Chart) Campbell, Texas; two brothers, Robert (Rita) Kapanka, St. Clair and Roy (Nancy) Kapanka, Pa.; one brother in-law and sister in-law, Richard and Carrol Zuehlke, Royal Oak and several nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by a son, Michael in 1973; one son in-law, Richard Boldt in 1998; one brother and sister in-law Don and Beverly Kapanka.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Bad Axe with Rev. Kenneth Lueke, pastor, officiating. Burial took place in Colfax Township Cemetery.
Memorials may be offered to the Family Discretionary Fund. Arrangements were handled by the MacAlpine Funeral Home, Bad Axe.
