Alexa’s mom says, “Thanks!” Dear Editor, I would just like to take a moment to thank everyone that has been so generous in giving to my family. It seemed like we were overwhelmed calls prayers gifts and monetary donations the moment Alexa was diagnosed with leuken1ia. I continue to be amazed at the way Alexa has apparently captured the heart of everyone in the thumb area. I guess that’s the way it is in a small town though; it’s like one big family. I want to specifically mention just a few people that really went above and beyond. First Chuck and Rhonda Nivison, folks at the Harbor Beach Citgo and everyone who volunteered for the “Fill ‘er Up for Alexa” fundraiser. I also need to thank Bob Swartz, the Harbor Beach Lions Club, Al’s Restaurant & Catering and the volunteers who were a part of the Spaghetti Dinner that was held in honor of Alexa. These events were both a huge success and will significantly offset the costs of Alexa s medical care. This experience has really helped me to see the good in people. I know that many of the families that have given to us so generously are going through their own struggles right now, yet they still felt led to give. It’s my hope that one day I’ll be able to return the favor. And a brief update on Alexa’s treatment. In a word: amazing. She is currently in remission. Her mood and energy are great. Her blood counts are all well within normal range and she’s experiencing very few side effects. You would never know that she was ever sick if she still had her hair, which by the way, she loves not having hair. So far we are right on track to finish her treat- ment as scheduled at the end of two years. Thank you , thank you, thank you again to everyone for your thoughts, prayers and support. It’s working!
