Chill participants needed in Port Austin

PORT AUSTIN - Do you have what it takes?

Of course you do, just like everyone else. This is the time to get ready for some super fun times in Port Austin during their Annual Winter Chill Thrill.

This year marks the third year for this funfilled event and participants are encouraged to start signing up for the many events.

This will be three days of excitement on January 8, 9 and 10 in Port Austin.

Sign up is starting now for:

Broomball Tournament - This is one of the events highlights, according to Joyce Stanek. “Teams will face off beginning at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the downtown arena on Railroad Street.” A new “Twist” this year, teams may be co-ed.

Please sign up now to make ensure a spot in this year’s tournament schedule. Call (989) 768- 0070 and register with Jeff Babcock. He can also answer any questions.

Snow Softball - Again in its third year, the event has proven to be a ton of fun for participants and spectators. “Action starts at 10 a.m. on Sunday, January 10 at Gallup Park Softball Field,” said Stanek.

This year will also include allowing co-ed teams and more of a tournament structure, “Complete with a plaque for the first and second place teams.” Contact Dave Dybowski at (989) 553- 4535 to sign up.

Polar Bear Dip - One of the largest attended functions is the Polar Bear Dip with over 100 spectators laughing with and enjoying the participants as they thrill everyone with a quick dip.

Participants may register up until the start of the event which will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 9 at the Port Austin State Harbor.

Pajama Shopping - This fun twist to shopping takes place on Saturday also with many sales, specials and surprise prizes at different shops and restaurants around Port Austin.

Also on Saturday will be the exciting chilli cook-off with many participating.

A couple new family events this year will include the saucer pull and the digital scavenger hunt.

Also, the Garfield Inn will be sponsoring a “naildriving contest.”

“Is it a Deal - or No Deal?” - This is the third year for this wild and crazy event based on the popular television game show. The event will take place on Friday, January 8 at 8 p.m. Tickets will go on sale January 2 to the public.
