     BAD AXE - Technology purchases have been put on hold during the last several years at Bad Axe Public Schools, and now the need for new equipment - and the cost - is high.

HB approves three resolutions
     HARBOR BEACH - The City of Harbor Beach approved three resolutions at its Jan. 17 regular meeting. The city renewed an existing contract with Corrpro regarding maintenance of its water tower. The agreement is for cathodic protection corrosion control equipment for $1,400 per year.

     Harbor Beach man sentenced for sex crime Brian Michael Long, of Harbor Beach, will spend the next two to 15 years in prison for criminal sexual conduct, second degree. Long, 36, was sentenced Jan. 17, and received credit for one day already spent in jail.

     • Walter Howard Bedford, 30, of Caseville, attempting to file a false police report, $250 fines and costs, 14 days in jail. • Jerred J.M. Clouse, 22, of Bad Axe, assaulting a police officer, $1,650 fines and costs, $670 restitution, 12 months probation, 34 days in jail, four days community service.

International students to participate in local fundraiser
     BAD AXE - Many students from all parts of the world will be waiting “Tables for Tips” at Pizza Hut in Bad Axe from 4 p.m. till 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 6. The students are here through the International Student Exchange program and are attending local schools. Each has become a member of a new family and new community.

Incense, bath salts stolen from Bad Axe business
     On Monday, Jan. 23 at 8:59 a.m., Huron County Sheriff Officer Sgt. James Hunt responded to the Maple Lane Discount Store on North Van Dyke Road, in Verona Township, to scene of a breaking and entering. Hunt was advised by storeowner Robert Alent that a glass entrance door had been smashed and entry was gained.
