Green said that over 54 million babies have been aborted in this county. He went on to say, “We think it is a catastrophe that those kids were aborted.” He added, “But they are with our God.”
Green went on to say that he is not a preacher but a legislator. As such, he and fellow pro-life legislators are working on several things in Lansing. A movement to produce a pro-life license plate is now in discussion. Also, legislation is in committee that will make it mandatory that each aborted baby will be afforded a dignified burial or cremation. Green went on to say, “They will not be thrown in a waste basket.”
A large crowd of Right to Life advocates gathered on the Huron County Court House Building steps Sunday for a memorial service. Deb Knarian, Huron County Right to Life president, acted as emcee for the event. Prayer was offered by two local clergy, Father Andy Booms of St. Michael’s, Port Austin, and Reverend Stewart Justin of Victory in Christ Community Church.
The keynote speaker this year was State Senator Mike Green. Other noteworthy speakers over the years have been state representative Tom Meyer, Chuck Rondo of Forgotten Man Ministries, Huron County Treasurer Sherry Learman, and Barb Listing, president of Michigan’s Right to Life.
Senator Green spoke in several topics. He ended his speech with a story about a woman who was living in the Philippines in the 1980s. The pregnant woman was ill and her doctor pressured her to have an abortion to save her life. The pregnant mom said absolutely “no” and went through with the pregnancy. She had the baby and both were healthy. Green went on to say that America now knows that child as Tim Tebow of the Nation Football League.
