Get caught Blue-Handed and win

Buy Nearby is an ongoing, year-round, feel-good campaign launched by Michigan Retailers Association to benefit retail businesses and their local communities all across Michigan. Buy Nearby wants to bring a Pure Michigan type of emotion to shopping in Michigan and get shoppers committed to buying nearby in Michigan. The campaign is intended to serve as a personal call to action, a symbol of pride and celebration, a rallying cry across Michigan and an economic driver for our state.

The year-round campaign has designated Oct. 5, as Get Caught Blue- Handed Day, a day to celebrate local retail businesses and their importance and to encourage consumers to “get caught” buying nearby.

Huron County VIEW is partnering with local businesses throughout Huron County to promote Get Caught Blue-Handed Day on Oct. 4 and 5. A special Buy Nearby supplement will be published September 26 in Huron County VIEW, featuring businesses across the county who are participating in Get Caught Blue-Handed Day. Those who wish to show their commitment to community and local business by participating in this event can visit any participating business location to receive an official Blue-Handed glove. Wearing this Blue-Handed glove while shopping on Oct. 4 and 5 will identify them as a participating Blue-Handed shopper. VIEW photographers will be roving throughout the county the days of the event, looking for Blue-Handed shoppers that stand out in the crowd. Those Caught Blue-Handed by the cameras can win Blue-Dollar Vouchers to be spent like cash at any participating sponsor the days of the event. A total of $500 in Blue Dollar Vouchers will be given away, compliments of Huron County VIEW.

Many retailers will also offer special in-store drawings and other promotions to encourage local shopping on Get Caught Blue-Handed Day. Watch for the special supplement in the Sept. 26 edition of Huron County VIEW for more details.

“Retailing is responsible for 850,000 jobs in Michigan, and we all wish to create more local jobs through increased local purchases,” said Katie Moffit, of Michigan Retails Association. “Buying nearby keeps more money within Michigan communities, which improves the vitality of Michigan’s local economies and their quality of life. Buy Nearby seeks to build upon and strengthen existing shop local groups by expanding and elevating the buy nearby in Michigan movement to a statewide campaign.”
