Harbor Beach graduate’s body found

Sean Murawske Sean Murawske ALMA — The body of a 2013 Harbor Beach High School graduate was found Tuesday in Alma after a nearly two and a half hour search, the Alma Police Department reported.

Sean Murawske, 18, was reported missing on Sunday afternoon by family members. More than 250 volunteers from Alma and Harbor Beach were part of a search party that organized at the Alma College Chapel at 10 a.m. Monday. Murawske’s body was found at approximately 12:25.

1:30 a.m. Sunday leaving a party at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity on W. Center Street in Alma. After family discovered he was missing, the Alma College Police Department immediately began searching for him with hopes of finding him alive. Officers conducted numerous interviews and searches Sunday evening and attempted to follow up on leads.

Troy Schelke, Murawske’s uncle and former history teacher at Harbor Beach, described the young man as the “most soft-hearted and kindhearted person you’d ever want to meet.”

Schelke added that, “if you would have known him, you’d love him and respect him.”

Schelke said prayers for the family would be appreciated as “they are a family with great faith.”

Murawske, who played baseball and basketball during his high school career at Harbor Beach, was a freshman at Alma College.

Harbor Beach Community Schools Superintendent Lawrence Kroswek said Murawske was an honor student and athlete.

“He was very well liked by the students and staff here,” Kroswek said. “It’s been a hard time for all of us here. Prayers and best wishes are being sent out to the family and we want do to all we can to support them the best we can at this time.”

Anyone wanting to show their support for the family, may send memorials to Our Lady of Lake Huron School, the Harbor Beach Baseball Team, or to the family.

The case remains open and under investigation. Anyone with information that could help police investigating Murawske’s death is asked to call the Alma Police Department at 989-463-8317.
