Bad Axe Elementary named Reward School
BAD AXE - Bad Axe Elementary School was recently designated as a Reward School through the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) for “Beating the Odds” for the 2015-2016 school year, based on the Top-to- Bottom state rankings issued by MDE. A Beating the Odds School is identified for performing better than predicted based on traditional risk factors.
“Receiving such a designation from the state substantiates the time and efforts of our staff and administration in creating a high achieving learning environment,” said Bad Axe Superintendent Greg Newland. “We have worked diligently as a district to provide the necessary training for staff and implement effective instruction to help improve student achievement.” he added.
Bad Axe Elementary Principal Sharon Brighton said, “The Bad Axe school-family-community collaboration has made learning a priority for all of our students. I am proud of the accomplishment, and we will continue to work together to meet each student’s unique academic challenges.”
Of the various K-12 schools across Michigan, there are 219 schools that met the Reward School criteria. “This is something for our entire district to be proud of,” Newland said, “This is not achieved without a strong partnership with our parents and a positive rapport with our students to all have the same goal of high academic success.”
