Blood drives upcoming

CASEVILLE & PIGEON - The American Red Cross urges eligible donors to give blood this summer for hospital patients in need. A blood drive will take place from 1 to 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, Caseville Fire Hall, located at 6633 Main St. A second drive is scheduled for 2 to 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27 at the Pigeon VFW Post, located at 311 S. Main St.

North Huron Early Learning Center open

Bean Queen contestants sought

HURON COUNTY - The Huron County Bean Growers’ Association is seeking candidates for the 2017 Huron County Bean Queen contest. Participants will be interviewed at a special dinner, Monday, July 24, with the crowning at the Huron Community Fair, Monday, July 31. Contestants must be: single, between 17-25 (as of Sept. 1, 2017), and the daughter or granddaughter of a Huron County bean grower. The deadline is Friday, July 14. Master Gardeners offering raspberry canes

HURON COUNTY - The Huron County Master Gardeners conducted a plant sale recently and there are a few items left over. All are potted and are growing and waiting to be planted: Caroline Red Raspberry canes - Fall bearing, huge, very sweet, firm; Canby Red Raspberry canes - Summer bearing. The light red fruit are medium to large, firm, sweet and excellent for fresh use. Entirely spineless on the fruit-bearing part of the cane; Anne Yellow Raspberry canes - Everbearing, very large, super sweet and firm; Jewel Black Raspberry canes-- Summer bearing, very large. North Huron-Kinde Class of 1967 reunion being planned

KINDE - Members of the North Huron-Kinde Class of 1967 are being sought for a 50th Year Reunion to be hosted from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 2 at the Pasta House in Kinde. Classmates are urged to call Bruce at 989-550-7391.

Attic Treasures, June 15-16

BAD AXE - The Bad Axe First Presbyterian Church’s Annual Attic Treasures & Bake Sale will be hosted at the church, 112 E. Woodworth St., from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., June 15 & 16. Along with baked goods, items include furniture, bedding, household items, holiday decorations and lots of toys.

Register by June 16 for boater safety course

HURON COUNTY - The Huron County Sheriff’s Office will be offering a Boater Safety Course from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., June 19 & 20 The class will be conducted in the Huron County Sheriff’s Office’s basement. Students must attend both nights. There is no fee for this course and students must pre-register by 5 p.m. on Friday, June 16 by calling the Huron County Sheriff’s Office Records Division at 989-269-6500 during regular business hours. Students are to pick up the study materials prior to the start of the class from the Huron County Sheriff’s Office and bring a pencil and paper. Students should be at least 12 years old or 12 years old during this boating season. HURON COUNTY - The Huron County Health Department announces Senior Project Fresh dates, times and locations. The program offers free fruit and vegetables to qualifying Senior Citizens. Kid’s Safety Day & Monster Mural, June 16

SEBEWAING - Scheurer will be hosting Michigan Sugar Festival Kids’ Safety Day Events at the Sebewaing Village Park from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, June 16. There will be events and giveaways for kids. Everyone is invited to help color the Monster Mural!

PA American Legion Auxiliary Garage & Bake Sale, June 16-17

PORT AUSTIN - The Port Austin American Legion Post #499 Ladies Auxiliary Fundraiser Garage & Bake Sale will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., both days, Friday & Saturday, June 16-17 at the Post at 8875 N. Hellems Road, Port Austin. No clothing will be sold at this sale. The ladies are accepting donations at the Post.

Bad Axe Tractor Supply to host pet adoptions, June 17

BAD AXE - Tractor Supply Company, 736 North Van Dyke Road, Bad Axe, will host pet and livestock adoptions, Saturday, June 17. Families will have the opportunity to visit with adoptable animals and are invited to ask questions of adoption volunteers. Thumb Animal Shelter will be on-site from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A Purina representative will be on-site from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is part of Purina Days that highlights pets and livestock, as well as the tools needed to properly care for them. Duck Derby, June 17

SEBEWAING - The USA FFA reminds everyone that the Annual Duck Derby will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 17. Rubber ducks will be dumped from a payloader into the river next to the Sebewaing River Bridge to see which duck gets to the finish line first - its owner will win a cash prize.

Golf tournament and charity event, June 17

PORT AUSTIN - The public is welcome to participate in a golf tournament and charity banquet at the Bird Creek Golf Club, June 17, with proceeds going to the Port Austin Reef Light Association (PARLA) in honor of Joe Schwanitz. The shotgun scramble begins at 2 p.m. and the Charity Banquet starts at 6 p.m. with a happy hour and a prime rib and chicken dinner at 7 p.m., catered by Al’s Restaurant, of Harbor Beach. Guests do not need to play in the golf tournament to attend the banquet. There will be prizes for the golf competition, door prizes and up to 30 silent auction items at the banquet. All funds raised for the lighthouse will be matched up to $5,000. To sign up a team or to RSVP for the dinner banquet only, call 989-738-4653.

Strawberry social, June 17

McKINLEY TOWNSHIP - Hayes United Methodist Church will be hosting a Strawberry Social from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, June 17. Sponsored by the United Methodist Women, the event raises camp scholarship monies for kids. Hayes UMC is located on the corner of Filion and Sturm roads. On the menu: farm burgers, ice cream, strawberries and cake. Tickets will be sold at the door, with takeout available.
