Baseball defeated Royal Oak Shrine Catholic 4-3 and will move on to play Portland St. Patrick in the semifinal at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Michigan State University’s Drayton McLane Baseball Stadium.

The winner of Friday’s game will move on to play for the state title at 5 p.m. Saturday at MSU.

USA girls are not celebrating, however, after falling 1-0 to Ottawa Lake Whiteford Tuesday, which knocked them out of the running to defend their two-time state title.

The Patriot softball team can stand tall, however, about their regional win over the Ubly Bearcats Saturday. While Ubly played a tough game, USA came out on top 8-5.

Coach Isaiah Gainforth said the Patriots never relaxed, despite an early 5-0 lead.

“Ubly grinds. You know they’re not going to give bats away, and they’re going to keep coming at you,” he said.

In the fifth, Ubly found home three times to give the Bearcats a chance for a rally and cutting USA’s lead to 7-4. In the end, USA scored once more and held Ubly to a single additional run.
