Trista Osantoski graduates from medical school


Courtesy photo Courtesy photo MOUNT PLEASANT - Trista Osantoski, the daughter of Jim and Linda Donovan, and Jim and Tina Osantoski, graduated from medical school at Central Michigan University (CMU) College of Medicine on Sunday, May 7. Trista is the granddaughter of Jerry and Vi Mixter, of Ruth, and Art and Marie Osantoski, of Bad Axe, and Jim Donovan and the late Nancy Donovan, of Davison. Osantoski attended high school at Davison Senior High, graduating in 2009 as salutatorian. She then completed her undergraduate degree on the Presidential Harden Scholarship at Northern Michigan University (NMU) where she earned a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry. While at NMU, she worked with Dr. Eugene Wickenheiser doing research in the permeability of salicylic acid through a lipid bilayer, completed a preceptorship with Dr. John Niemela, DPM, and was a member of the Student Leader Fellowship Program, through which she accomplished a 100-hour community service internship with Teaching Family Homes, in Marquette.

While in medical school, Osantoski served as the medical student council volunteer chair in 2014-2015, medical student council wellness chair in 2015-2016, continued research for Kennedy’s disease with Dr. Jamie Johansen and was elected as a student representative for the College of Medicine Technology Advisory Group. She was a member of the American Medical Association, Wilderness Medicine Student Interest Group, Surgery Student Interest Group and Emergency Medicine Student Interest Group.

She will continue her residency training in Internal Medicine at Piedmont Athens Regional in Athens, Georgia. Her future ambitions include working in wound care in a rural location and serving the underserved.
