Free day camp for kids

MAYVILLE - A free summer day camp for youth ages 10-15 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Aug 21-24 is being offered in Mayville with transportation by Thumb Area Transit from the Huron County Health Department to the camp and back. Daily lunch and snacks for the campers will be provided.

The camp includes 3-4 hours of daily abstinence education, learning skills to refrain from risky activities including alcohol, drugs and sex, and 4-5 hours of various challenge and recreation activities including high ropes course, tree house, climbing wall, horseback riding and waterfront exploration. Recreation activities include archery, nature hike, waterslide, tie-dye T-shirt, teambuilding, sensory objects use, outdoor cooking and survival skills.

This camp will have trained staff who supervise and operate the camp and its participants. The campers must provide tennis shoes, sunscreen, bug spray, bathing suit, towel and water shoes (if desired), and must attend all four daily camp sessions. Space is limited and only available to registered participants.

Funding is provided by the Michigan Abstinence Program and the camp is hosted by the abstinence programs of the Huron and Tuscola County Health departments.
