Teen Read Week, Oct. 9-14

PIGEON - It’s Teen Read Week at the Pigeon District Library (Oct. 9-14). There will be a drawing at the end of the week, so, teens, stop in to enter!

Loopers, Oct. 12

BAD AXE - The Loopers - knitters, crocheters and needle-pointers - will meet at 1 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 12. Needle workers of all experience levels are welcome to share patterns and techniques. (They meet weekly at 1 p.m., Thursdays at the Bad Axe Area District Library.)

County historical society meeting, Oct. 12

BAY PORT - The Huron County Historical Society will conduct its third quarterly meeting of year, Thursday, Oct. 12 at the newly opened Bay Port Historical Museum, located at the corner of Geiger and Kuhl, 3 miles south of Bay Port and 1 mile west of M-25. The meeting will be hosted by the Bay Port Historical Society. A social period with refreshments will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting will start at 7 p.m. A presentation about the Bay Port Fish Company by Lakon Williams will follow the meeting. All interested in Huron County’s history are welcome to attend.

Events to benefit Stanley Roggenbuck Recovery Fund

HARBOR BEACH - Events to benefit the Stanley Roggenbuck Recovery Fund are slated for Saturday, Oct. 14 at Harbor Beach High School. The Bake Sale & Craft Sale will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Spaghetti Dinner will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a donation of $10 per person. Public Square Rosary Rally, Oct. 14

BAD AXE - As part of the 2017 Public Square Rosary Crusade, a Public Square Rosary Rally is planned for Sat. Oct. 14 at noon at the Bad Axe Knights of Columbus Hall, 1038 S. Van Dyke Road (M-53), Bad Axe. Organizers say, “Our nation is in great need of public prayer, repentance and conversion. In the historic year of the Fatima Centennial (1917-2017), we ask God to save America through the Rosary of His Most Holy Mother.”

Rosary Rally, Oct. 14

HARBOR BEACH - A Rosary Rally in honor of Our Lady of Fatima for Peace is planned for 3:30 p.m., Sat., Oct. 14 at the Mary Statue near the O.L.L.H. parking lot at Our Lady of Lake Huron Holy Name of Mary Parish Catholic Church in Harbor Beach. It is the 100-year anniversary of Mary’s apparitions at Fatima. A 4:30 p.m. Mass will follow the Rosary and Prayers. Organizers say, “Please join us to pray for peace.”

Fall Foliage & Family Fun Day, Oct. 14

PORT AUSTIN - The Huron County Nature Center will host a new event - its Fall Foliage & Family Fun Day, beginning at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 14. Organizers say, “Why drive north for those fall leaves when the most stunning colors can be found right here in the Thumb?! Join us for cider, donuts and pumpkins, too! Wander the trails and take in all that Michigan in autumn has to offer.” Details: www.huronnaturecenter.org.

Timeless Trivia, Oct. 16 & Nov. 20

HARBOR BEACH - Timeless Trivia is set for 7:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 16 and 7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 20 at the Harbor Beach Area District Library. The free programs testing trivia knowledge include snacks and prize opportunities. Themes are: October - The Turbulent 60s, and November: Astronauts, Moon Shots & Spacewalks. Details: 989-479-3417.

STEM after-school activity, Oct. 17

HARBOR BEACH - Students from kindergarten through 8th grade are invited to STEM after school activities from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., select Tuesdays in October, November and December at the Harbor Beach Area District Library. Registration is required and limited, so contact the library ASAP. Topics: Oct. 17 - Knex; Nov 7 - 3D Pens (only open to grades 4-8); Nov. 21 - Perler Beads; Dec. 5 - Coding Games. FAFSA Day, Oct. 18

CARO - For FAFSA Day, students will visit the Tuscola Technology Center, 1401 Cleaver Rd, Caro, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 18 with their parents or guardians to complete the FAFSA. Mott Community College, Saginaw Valley State University and Delta College will provide support and Walmart and Pizza Hut are donating food for the event. Unionville- Sebewaing Area, Cass City, Reese, Akron- Fairgrove, Kingston, Mayville, Millington and Caro high school seniors will participate during the day.

Unionville library offers adult computer classes, Oct. 18 & 25, Nov. 1

UNIONVILLE - Columbia Township Library is offering these free, adult computer classes at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays: Oct. 18 & 25 - Microsoft Excel - Beginner (Pt. 1 & Pt. 2); and Nov. 1 - Digital Books & Magazines. Details: Columbia Township Library, 6456 Center St. (M-24), Unionville, 989-674-2651.
