Two area men in custody on felony meth charges

HURON COUNTY - Huron County Sheriff Kelly J. Hanson reported that on Wednesday, Jan. 3, shortly after noon, he, along with sheriff’s deputies, an Ubly village patrolman, K-9 deputy and dog from the St. Clair County Sheriff’s office served a drug search warrant at 2365 E. Main St. in Ubly. This search was the result of an investigation that evolved over time from several tips that the sheriff’s office had received. Found during the search were marijuana, crystal meth and what was believed to be crack cocaine. The find led to the arrest on felony drug charges of a 27-year-old Ubly man, who was the sole occupant of the apartment at the time of the search. Seized at the scene was cash, a cell phone and drug paraphernalia. The results of the search then led to a traffic stop in Bad Axe where Huron County Sheriff Office Deputies and a Bad Axe city patrolman took a 40-year-old Bad Axe man into custody on additional felony drug charges. A 95 Ford Van, meth, suspected powder drugs and a cell phone were seized. Both men were lodged in the Huron County jail and ordered no bond by the 73B District Court. Hanson also reported that formal charges would be requested as of Thursday, Jan. 4, with other charges possibly pending. They will then be officially arraigned sometime later.
