BAD AXE - The Hatchet Invitational wrestling tournament is this Saturday, and will feature some of the state’s top high school wrestling talent.

The Invitational will see 21 teams wrestle at host Bad Axe, with teams such as Traverse City Central, Richmond, Garber, Lake Orion, Bay City Central, Carson City Central, and Flint Beecher making the trip.

Bad Axe will be joined by Elkton-Pigeon- Bay Port and Ubly as teams from Huron County participating in the tournament.

The Hatchets are led by junior Ryan Wehner, who has started the season 19-0 in the 140 lb. weight class. Senior Ben McVey has started 16-7 in the 160 lb. weight class, and freshman Cody Bailey has started off his career impressively, as he currently sits at 13-8 in the 160 lb. weight class.

EPBP is led by Blake Smithers, who won the 285 lb. weight class at the Sandusky Invitational last Saturday, by posting an undefeated record.

Ubly will look to senior Andrew Gilbert, who has started the season out 11-3 in the 215 lb. weight class.

Richmond is likely the favorite, as they won the Division 3 State Championship last season.
