Bad Axe (0-5, 4-10)

Before losing to EPBP on Friday night, the Hatchets dropped a conference game to Vassar on Tuesday night, 71-66. Stats for Bad Axe were unavailable, but Dylan Hubbard scored 20 for the Vulcans, and Jackson Noel added 10 points and 10 assists. Tuesday night the Hatchets fell on the road to Croswell- Lexington, 55-36. The Pioneers jumped out to a 12-2 advantage in the first quarter, and was able to make the lead last. Cros-Lex knocked down 10 three-pointers. James Kervin scored 12 points for Bad Axe, and Spencer Britt added eight. The Hatchets will be back in action on Friday night when they travel to Reese.

Caseville (2-3, 3-9)

The Eagles went 1-1 before losing to Peck Tuesday night, dropping a contest to Flint International Academy on Friday night, 70-15, and beating Akron-Fairgrove on Wednesday night, 56-12. Against FIA, eighth grader Jaden Nugent led the Eagles with five points, and in the win over the Vikings, Sawyer Kozfkay scored 21 and Andrew Pattengill added 12. Caseville plays Akron-Fairgrove again on Friday night.

Harbor Beach (3-2, 6-6)

The Pirates suffered two tough Greater Thumb East Conference losses over the past week, losing to Brown City on a late basket by the Green Devils, 44-42, and then losing to Marlette 58-40 on Friday night. In the Brown City game, the Pirates led for most of the game after racing out to a 13-4 first quarter lead, but the Green Devils’ Andrew Geiger made the go-ahead basket with three seconds left. Ryan Sieman scored 17 for Harbor Beach, and Parker Jahn added nine. Against Marlette, the Red Raiders led 16-8 after the first, and then 28-17 at halftime. Bryce George was tough for the Pirates to stop, as he poured in 28 points, and grabbed 15 rebounds. Jimmy Schelke had 13 points for Harbor Beach. The Pirates traveled to EPBP after press on Wednesday, and host Sandusky on Friday.

EPBP (3-2, 7-6)

The Lakers went 2-0 over the past week, defeating Bad Axe 50-48, and Cass City 55-38. In the win over Cass City Andrew Siegfried and Corey Manenti both scored 12 points for EPBP. The Lakers played Harbor Beach after press on Wednesday night, and travel to Vassar on Friday.

North Huron (2-3, 7-7)

The Warriors nearly pulled of a big upset Tuesday night, as they were barely edged out by Kingston, 64-61. “North Huron played a great game and absolutely shot the lights out making 11 three point shots,” said Kingston head coach Dave Lester. “We struggled defensively, but were 7-8 from the free throw line in the 4th quarter.” The Warriors led 34-31 at halftime, but a 16-7 third quarter advantage by Kingston helped give the Cardinals the win. Brandon Berry scored 18 for North Huron and Ty Knoblock added 17. Evan Neff had 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Cardinals. North Huron hosted Akron-Fairgrove after press Wednesday night, and hosts Flint International on Friday night.

Owen-Gage (2-3, 2-8)

The Bulldogs picked up their second win of the season Tuesday night, defeating rival Akron-Fairgrove for the second time this season, 60-23. “We had a slow start, but made up for it the rest of the game,” said Owen-Gage head coach Brian Wright. “This was a much needed win going into the last month of the schedule.” Owen-Gage led 6-2 after the first quarter, but blew the game open in the middle two quarters, outscoring the Vikings, 19-9 in the second quarter, and 19-7 in the third quarter. Luke Retford scored a career-high 16 points, and grabbed 18 rebounds. Brandon Binder had 13 points and seven rebounds, while Carl Steff and Aaron Fahrner both scored eight points. The Bulldogs will be back in action on Thursday night when they host Bay City All Saints.

Ubly (3-2, 9-4)

The Bearcats had a dominant performance against Memphis Friday night, defeating the Yellowjackets, on the road, 82-42. Jake Uhl hit seven three-pointers in the victory. On Wednesday night, Ubly knocked off Marlette, 62-43. Anthony Sweeney was the leading scorer for the Bearcats in the victory, as he scored 23 points. Matt Maikrzek added 13, and Ryan Sweeney and Uhl both scored eight. The Bearcats will host Brown City on Friday.

USA (4-0, 10-0)

The Patriots remain perfect, and this past week they knocked off rival Reese impressively, 75-44. In the win over Reese, Zach Fritz scored a game-high 22 points, including 19 in the first half. Tyler Heckroth added 18 points, all on three-pointers. On Friday night the Patriots defeated Vassar, 72-28. USA, who is now 10th in the Class C AP Rankings, traveled to Sanford Meridian on Wednesday after press, and hosts Cass City on Friday.
