Deliverable fuel assistance available

HURON COUNTY - The Human Development Commission currently has funds available to assist low-income individuals in Huron County with deliverable fuel, such as propane, fuel oil, firewood, coal, heating fuel pellets or corn. Seasonal Weight Restrictions lifted

HURON COUNTY - Effective 7 a.m., Tuesday, April 10, 2018, the Seasonal Weight Restrictions on all roads under the jurisdiction of the Huron County Road Commission were lifted. Details: 989-269-6404.

Tots 2 Teens Sale, April 14

PIGEON - Cross Tots 2 Teens Sale will be Saturday, April 14, 9 a.m. to noon at Cross Lutheran School, Pigeon. Admission fee is $2 per adult; proceeds to the Mission/Outreach Ministry. 2018 Lake Huron Regional Fisheries Workshop, April 19

BAD AXE - Michigan Sea Grant and Michigan State University-Extension, in partnership with the Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Division, USGS Great Lakes Science Center and local fishery organizations, are hosting an evening regional workshop with information and status updates on topics such as fish populations and angler catch data, forage or prey fish surveys, offshore fisheries and native Lake Trout, status of Saginaw Bay Yellow Perch and Walleye, as well as updates on fisheries management activities, citizen science opportunities for anglers and a variety of other Lake Huron topics of local interest. Everyone is invited to participate in the evening Lake Huron Regional Fishery Workshop (approximately 3 hours) which is open to the public at no cost on Thursday, April 19 at 6 p.m. at the Ubly Fox Hunter’s Club, 2351 Ubly Road (M-19), Bad Axe. Severe weather, tornado spotter training, April 19

BAD AXE - Members of the general public are invited to a National Weather Service Skywarn spotter training at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 19 at the Huron County Expo Center, 170 W. Soper Road, Bad Axe. A NOAA trainer will provide insight and knowledge in detection and response to spring and summer weather and storms. The training is designed for first responders and the public. Up North Down South, April 20-22

HURON COUNTY & DETROIT - Young professionals and entrepreneurs in Huron County are invited to register for Up North Down South - a weekend retreat in Detroit learning and engaging with like-minded individuals in Detroit, in collaboration with Detroit Up North, an annual event that brings Detroiters to Port Austin for a weekend. Activities will take place April 20-22 at various locations within Detroit. Ticket prices include: two-night hotel or hostel stay, shuttle transportation throughout the weekend, cocktails, food, admission to all events, MoGo Bike Share passes and a Detroit Up North T-shirt. Open House, April 25

LINCOLN TOWNSHIP - Church School, a tuition-free public school, will be having an open house on Wednesday, April 25 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. for families interested in a rural school education. Thumb Area MEA Retired Meeting, April 27

CASS CITY - Thumb Area MEA Retired will meet Tuesday, April 24 at the Charmont Restaurant in Cass City. There is a social hour at noon, where members may purchase their lunch. At 1 p.m., Shari Bock, who works at Cass City High School, will share information regarding their Backpack for Kids program. Membership is open to all retired public school employees. 4-H seeking garage sale items; drop off April 28

HURON COUNTY - The Huron County 4-H Leaders’ Association is planning a garage sale fundraiser for May and is accepting items in good condition on Saturday, April 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 4-H Building on the Bad Axe fairgrounds: household items, small furniture, jewelry, vintage items, antiques, toys, gently used children’s and adult clothing, shoes and boots. Carnival, April 28

Law Enforcement Memorial Service, May 2

GREATER THUMB - The Greater Thumb Lodge #148 Fraternal Order of Police and the Tuscola County Chaplin Corps invites all to attend the Law Enforcement Memorial Service for Huron, Sanilac and Tuscola counties, on Wednesday, May 2 at 6 p.m. at the Indianfields Township Cemetery on M-24 (Ellington St.), just south of M-81. The event is in memory of Huron County Sheriff Joseph J. Murray, Caro Police Department Officer William O. Putnam, Marlette Police Department Chief James C. Lounsberry and Huron County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Kelly J. Vermeersch.

BAD AXE - The Bad Axe Class of 2021’s Mom 2 Mom Sale will be Saturday, May 5 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Bad Axe Middle School gym, 750 S. Van Dyke Road (M-53), Bad Axe.
