YAC accepting new members, grant applications

HURON COUNTY - The Huron County Community Foundation Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) - a group of high school students from each of Huron County’s schools dedicated to improving the quality of life in Huron County - is seeking additional members. With graduation around the corner, multiple members of the YAC will be off to new challenges, leaving behind them an empty seat at the table.

Current returning high school students seeking additional leadership opportunities and who want to make an impact in their community and serve as the voice of Huron County youth are encouraged to apply. The application to join YAC is at www.huroncountycommunityfoundation.org/yac-news/joinyac, due by Tuesday, April 17.

YAC has openings for each of Huron County’s seven school districts:

BAD AXE - 2 seats open - preferably a current 8th and a current 9th grader;

CASEVILLE - up to 4 seats open - current 8th-11th graders can apply;

EPBP LAKER - 2 seats opening - preferably a current 8th and current 9th grader;

HARBOR BEACH - 1 seat open - preferably a current 8th grader;

NORTH HURON - 2 seats open - preferably a current 8th and a current 9th grader;

OWEN-GAGE - 1 seat open - preferably a current 9th grader;

YAC meets monthly to help improve the quality of life in Huron County. The YAC impacts youth by conducting surveys to find the biggest problems impacting peers. YAC is responsible for reviewing grant applications and advising HCCF on funding grants for youth projects to impact the needs reported during the survey. The YAC also does an awareness needs-based project every year, along with community service and a fund development project.

YAC is also accepting grant applications for projects impacting Huron County youth until Tuesday, April 17. Preference will be given to projects impacting one of the top three needs as identified by the recent needs assessment: Gossip & Rumors; Drug & Alcohol Use; and Texting & Driving.
