Assistance sought in hit and run accident

GRANT TOWNSHIP - Huron County Sheriff Kelly J. Hanson reports that on Saturday, May 5 at 11:55 p.m., the Huron County Sheriff’s Office responded to Sebewaing Road in front of the Silver Bullet Speedway in Grant Township, which was the scene of a serious hit and run accident. Investigation determined that a 2002 Lincoln Town Car was eastbound on Sebewaing Road near a speedway entrance, when a westbound 1999 Dodge pickup failed to yield to the Town Car and turned in front of it. After the two collided, a 20-year-old lone occupant driver, from Caseville, of the Town Car was seriously injured, with the unknown lone occupant driver of the pickup fleeing the scene on foot. The Caseville man was taken to Scheurer Hospital by the Elkton Ambulance Service and was later transferred out to an out-of-county hospital for specialized treatment. Several individuals witnessed the incident as it was reported that the pickup had previously left another speedway driveway recklessly and began westbound before turning in front of the Town Car. However, no one could provide who the driver was or any description. The owner of the pickup told investigating Deputy Eric Hessling that his pickup had been taken without permission and he knew of no suspects. Investigation has been ongoing. Sheriff Hanson and his office is asking that anyone with any information about the unknown driver to please call the office at 989-269-6500 during regular business hours or Huron Central Dispatch anytime at 989-269-6421. Confidential callers can also use the TIP Line at 989-269-2861. Other agencies assisting with this accident were the Owendale Fire Department.
