Ben Muir named new VIEW editor

Ben Muir Ben Muir HURON COUNTY - The Huron County VIEW is excited to announce Ben Muir, of Bad Axe, has been chosen News & Sports Editor of the Huron County VIEW. Muir joined the team on Monday, May 8 and has just completed his move to Bad Axe.

“We have taken our time in selecting a new editor for the Huron County VIEW,” Publisher Jane Vanderpoel said. “We passed over several candidates that looked good on paper, but lacked that certain spark we were looking for. We are fortunate to have experienced growth year after year at the VIEW. Providing a quality community newspaper that is relevant to our readers is vital to that continued growth. We feel Ben’s energy and passion for journalism fits our mission and we are excited to work with him in writing the next chapter for the Huron County VIEW.”

Muir was raised in Lapeer, where he worked on a farm and in his family-owned funeral home, Muir Brothers Funeral Home. He has a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from Michigan State University, along with a minor in cultural anthropology.

After graduation, Muir moved to Petersburg, Alaska - which, he notes, is a town on an island about 3,000 miles from Lapeer. There, he was a staff writer for about one year at a weekly newspaper called the “Petersburg Pilot.”

Muir says he looks forward to settling in as Editor of the Huron County VIEW. He also expects, among other activities, to kayak in Port Austin, eat a Port Hope Burger at Leroy’s, golf in Bad Axe, and walk the beaches in Caseville, while handling a chocolate ‘super cone’ from Grindstone City.
