The cost was scrutinized at the Tuesday meeting when a community member questioned why the properties committee appeared to have chosen the most expensive bid. Insulation is the issue, said Todd Talaski, properties chair. The awarded bid is to H & H Roofing and Insulation Co. for $69,900, a cost that included insulating the facility, while the remaining three did not, he said.

“At first glance,” Talaski said. “[H & H was] not the least expensive bid, but their bid included removing all of the old insulation and replacing it with new insulation and more insulation.”

The three other bids for $50,971, $43,377 and $42,000 were reportedly offered in late April, but none included the insulation package. If the insulation was included, the closest bid to H & H would be about $4,000 more expensive, Talaski said.

“When you added that insulation replacement for their (squarefoot) price, for the complete job,” Talaski said, “H & H was less expensive.”

Talaski expects the roofing job to begin sometime in the summer.
