Pasty sales ahead!

CASEVILLE - Organizers say, “Summer’s here and Helping Hands Thrift Store volunteers are selling freshly made pasties!” Pre-orders may be made by calling 989-544-1562 and picked up from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, May 26 at the store at 6495 Main St. (M-25), Caseville. Each pasty costs $6 and proceeds go to benefit the local community, such as the $5,000 donated to the fire department for helmets.

4-H Garage Sale Fundraiser

BAD AXE - The Huron County 4-H Council will host a 4-H Garage Sale Fundraiser on Thursday, May 10, and Friday, May 11, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday, May 12 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 4-H Building at the Huron Community Fairgrounds in Bad Axe (off of Fair St.). There will be numerous items to choose from. All proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward scholarship and programing for Huron County 4-H youth.

County historical society quarterly meeting, May 10

PORT AUSTIN - The Huron County Historical Society’s first quarterly meeting of year will be held Thursday, May 10 at the Port Austin Area History Center, 1424 Pte. aux Barques Road, one mile east of town. A social gathering will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the meeting at 7 p.m. The evening’s program will be “Preserving Oral History,” presented by the Port Austin Area Historical Society. Art Party to benefit food pantries, May 11

PIGEON - An Art Party, Friday, May 11 at 6 p.m. at Turner Arts Studio & Gallery, Pigeon, will benefit local food pantries. Participants must pre-register ($25 per person) at www.turnerarts.org/upcoming-events and bring a bag of groceries or a cash donation that night. The event is sponsored by the Bad Axe Branch 1817 of the National Association of Letter Carriers as part of the Stamp Out Hunger Annual Food Drive. Details: 989-315-1269.

Stamp Out Hunger, May 12

HURON COUNTY - The National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is Saturday, May 12. Simply leave a grocery donation by your mailbox and your mail carrier will do the rest. Alternate collection points are at your local post office and Mancino’s Restaurant, Bad Axe.

Thumb Breadbasket, May 12

PIGEON - A Thumb Breadbasket bi-monthly food distribution to Thumb area families will be Saturday, May 12 at Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port Laker Elementary School. Setup 7 a.m., distribution 8:30 a.m. until supplies gone or 10 a.m., cleanup 10 a.m. Please bring bags or boxes to collect food in and carry it. (Next: Jul. 14; Sep. 15; Nov. 10.) Laker Elementary hosting Grandparents Program

PIGEON - Grandparents will be celebrated during the Laker Elementary Grandparents Program, May 15. The program will begin at 9 a.m. Grandparents are invited to visit their grandchildren’s classrooms for some refreshments beginning at 8:30 a.m. Every grade level will perform songs and fifth graders will be reading some tributes to grandparents. A dress rehearsal will be at 1:30 p.m., May 14 and grandparents can attend this, if they choose. Details: 989-453-4600.

Bad Axe Community Garden planting, May 17

BAD AXE - The Bad Axe Community Garden welcomes volunteers of all ages and experience levels to participate in Spring Planting Days. Starting at 4 p.m. to about 8 p.m., as weather permits, planting will be on: Thursday, May 17 and May 21-23 at 165 Pigeon Road, Bad Axe. Bring a pair of work gloves, a water bottle and sun protection. Volunteers will be working in the lot behind the Free Methodist Church. Questions may be directed to 989-479-9536.

Benefit for Andrea Piotter

PORT HOPE - A Benefit for Andrea Piotter will be hosted from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, May 19 at the Port Hope Amvets Hall, 8011 Rubicon Road, Port Hope. Andrea (Schave) Piotter was diagnosed with anaplastic thyroid cancer and has undergone surgery, chemotherapy, hospital stays and doctor appointments. She has been unable to work and insurance doesn’t cover all expenses. A spaghetti dinner will be hosted from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with tickets sold at the door ($10 per person; kids 5-12 $5 each). Lisa Keim’s Studio Recital, May 20

PIGEON - Lisa Keim’s Studio Recital will be Sunday, May 20 at 6 p.m. at Pigeon River Mennonite Church. All are invited for a variety of piano and vocal music. Refreshments to follow. Details: 989-453-2776. Three students, Ben Guza, Halle Keim and Ally Southgate, will be doing a senior recital on Sunday, May 27 at 6 p.m. at the church.
