“Thompson & Valentine” to be at the Port Austin Farmers Market

PORT AUSTIN - The lively musical duo, “Thompson & Valentine,” will be the featured performers “Live On Stage” at the Port Austin Farmers Market on Saturday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. downtown at the stage by the gym. Attendees are urged to bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Shawna Thompson comes from a long line of talented musicians and is proudly carrying on the family tradition. She began playing guitar and singing at age 12, and after developing a well-rounded collection of original material, she moved to Nashville at the age of 19, and some of her work landed in the hands of Lori Morgan and Pam Tillis. Bringing the experience back with her, she continued to perform a variety of songs solo and with different bands and duos. Having recently moved from Northern Michigan, she is now gaining exposure in the Flint and surrounding areas. Shawna is teaming up with Garry Valentine, a well-known, experienced musician. Shawna has a Masters Degree (2010) in International Business from Central Michigan University.

Garry Valentine hails from Gary, Indiana, by way of Portland, Oregon, and has played in a variety of West Coast and Midwest country bands. Garry is also a songwriter and arranger, with formal training on five musical instruments. His biggest thrill was playing shows with Country Music Hall of Fame members Hank Thompson and Ferlin Husky. He co-founded country band “No Way Home,” which was twice voted “Outstanding Country Act” by the Portland Music Association and appeared on local television several times. He played music with “The Robin Moore Band” (RMB) at venues ranging from Detroit’s Hard Rock Cafe to the New Holland Brew Pub in Holland, Michigan. The spinoff trio from RMB is “Ruby, T & Valentine.”
