Pigeon Band Shell announces 2018 season opener, performers

PIGEON - Another well-rounded series of entertainment was recently announced by the Pigeon Band Shell as the local venue prepares for its 28th season.

“Each season we seek out unique, family friendly performers with a wide variety and sometimes unusual types of programming,” said Neal B. Eichler, Pigeon Band Shell Committee Chairman. “Our diverse roster of 2018 performances will appeal to people of all ages and musical preferences, from country folk to Celtic flair and everything in-between.”

Up first:

• Thursday, June 21 - “Laurie & The Lefties” -the new adventure for the former “Laurie Middlebrook Band.” The key element of the wonderful thick harmonies the band delivers is built around Laurie’s amazing vocals. This group has great vocal depth with four solid lead vocalists that know when to step up and lead and when to step back and blend. This allows the band the freedom to pick songs from a vast array of styles and genres. Instrumentally, the band draws on years of experience. Its members have played stages large and small across North America. (thelauriemiddlebrookband.com/laurie-and-the-lefties)

“The 2018 concert series continues the tradition of selecting top-notch acts for our community,” said Lisa DiCamillo, Band Shell Committee member. “This year features a particularly well-rounded list of entertainment genres.”

“A series schedule along with patronage information was sent to area residents and businesses in mid-May,” said Eichler. “We appreciate the generous support of the community as we continue to bring quality entertainment to the Western Thumb.”

“Tickets for all of our concerts are available online at pigeonbandshell.com as well as at several outlets throughout the Thumb or by calling 1-800-292- 0614.” Eichler noted.

Concerts begin at 7 p.m. In the event of rain, concerts are moved to Laker High School Auditorium, 2.5 miles east of Pigeon on M-142. The Pigeon Band Shell has been repeatedly voted the Upper Thumb area’s best outdoor location for entertainment. The Pigeon Band Shell was built as a community effort with volunteer labor in 1991. Following a devastating fire in 1998, the band shell was rebuilt and modified to better accommodate the needs of diverse performers. Owned by the Village of Pigeon, the venue hosts an annual summer concert series featuring local community groups, big bands, dance artists, comedians, magicians, hypnotists and concert bands. Performances at the venue are funded by community donations, ticket sales and occasional grants from various arts councils.
