Bad Axe wins regional golf title

Photos by Mike Wilson UBLY - The Bad Axe men’s golf team edged out Saginaw Nouvel by a score of 338-339 to win the Division 4 regional title and earn the right to play for the state championship at Forest Akers East course at MSU, June 8-9. The state golf finals will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Friday.

The regional contest was hosted at Ubly Heights on Thursday, May 31.

Lead by junior Colby Meeks’ winning round of 77, the Hatchets team of junior Sam McAlpine (86), junior Tyler Bismark (87), freshman Nick McAlpine (88), and Freshman Clark Wehner, claimed the title with a combined score of 338.

The Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port Laker team of junior Brady Rosenthal (82), freshman Brady Krohn (82), and seniors Brandon Hazard (87), Adam Reinhard (89), and Nathan Pobanz (96) also qualified for the state tournament when their combined score of 340 was good enough to give them third place in the regional.
