Bad Axe, Laker top 15 in state golf championships

Huron County VIEW Sports File Photo EAST LANSING - Sam McAlpine led the Bad Axe Hatchet golfers to a 12th place finish at the state golf championships at Forest Akers East golf course on the Michigan State University campus in East Lansing.

McAlpine took an early lead in the first round when he shot a 35 through the first 9 holes and finished with a 73 for the day. On day two, McAlpine fell off the pace and finished with an 81, giving him a two day score of 154, but good enough for McAlpine to finish 12th place for the tournament. McAlpine, along with teammates Colby Meeks (168), Tyler Bismack (174), Nick McAlpine (195) and Clark Wehner (196), totaled for a combined score of 690 for 12th place.

The Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port Lakers were led by Brady Krohn who shot rounds of 77 and 88 to finish with a 165. Krohn, along with teammates Brandon Hazard (174), Nathan Probanz (180), Brady Rosenthal (181) and Adam Reinhardt (200), combined for a score of 700 and 10 points behind the Hatchets, giving them a 13th overall finish in the state.
