Ubly ball diamonds now have dugouts

Dear Editor,

Wow! The 2018 Ubly Little League season is coming to an end. The Ubly Little League Board would like to thank the Village of Ubly, the many sponsors, coaches, parents, players, family and friends for all your support hard work and dedication. We are very thankful for the outreach of all the supports from so many people in so many ways.

The Ubly Little League is continuing to work hard to be able to make improvements for our players. In case you haven’t been to the Albert E. Sleeper Park in Ubly, we now have dugouts on those fields. Thank you to Bischer Ready Mix and Landscaping for the donation of the cement and the blocks for the two sets of dugouts. Also, thank you to Mark Guza Construction for the donation of time to complete the dugouts. Also, Chris Schumacher for building the shelves to help keep the dugouts organized.

At Veteran’s Memorial Park, the east field by the river has been improved as well. The field was moved away from the woods. A new fence has been put up, diamond dust was added and hydro seed was sprayed. All thanks to Janel Morell, Allison Heleski, Angela Stringer, Ozzy’s Excavating, Stringer Excavating, Nicol & Son and TSS Photography.

Also, a bottle and can drive was held for a scoreboard.

Ubly Little League was fortunate to receive a grant from the Huron Community Foundation. We were able to purchase a field grooming machine. Thank you, Terry Chapin, for using the new equipment to keep our fields looking great.

As a result of all the support, Ubly Little League is able to purchase shirts for the players to keep, purchased new equipment and participate in tournaments. We were able to send five teams to the Pigeon Tournaments: 12U & 14U girls, 10U & 12U boys. The boys 12U Black team took 2nd place in Pigeon. In the Greater Thumb Little League, the 12U boys All-Star Team took 2nd place.

With the outpouring of support from the sponsors and many fundraisers another set of dugouts will be built at Veteran’s Memorial Park’s East field.

Thank you to: Jenny Turner for teaching the Paint Party that was held at The Gathering Place in Bad Axe; the Women’s Life Chapter #813 for the Bingo and Silent Auction that was held at the TVO Hall in Ubly; the fundraiser shirts and sweatshirts that Main Street Mercantile helped to create; and the 3rd annual corn hole tournament that was held at Ubly Heights.

Thank you!

Tammy Messing on behalf of
The Ubly Little League Board
