Free day camp offered to youth

MAYVILLE - A free summer day camp for youths ages 10-15 from Huron and Tuscola county is being offered Aug. 20-23 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Mayville, with free transportation by Thumb Area Transit to and from camp from the Huron County Health Department, 1142 S. Van Dyke Road (M-53), Bad Axe.

The schedule includes 3.5 hours of daily abstinence education (learning skills to refrain from risky activities including alcohol, drugs and sex) and 4.5 hours of various challenge and recreation activities such as high ropes course, tree house, climbing wall, horseback riding, waterfront exploration, archery, nature hike, waterslide, tie-dye T-shirts, teambuilding, sensory objects use, outdoor cooking and survival skills. Daily lunch and snacks will be provided.

The camp will have trained staff who supervise and operate the camp and its participants.

All children must provide tennis shoes, sunscreen, bug spray, bathing suit and towel (and water shoes, if desired) and must attend all four daily camp sessions.

Space is limited and only available to registered participants. Funding is provided by the Michigan Abstinence Program and hosted by Huron and Tuscola County health departments abstinence programs.
