Harbor Beach to host AG Venture Day

HARBOR BEACH - The City of Harbor Beach will host AG Venture Day, Saturday, Aug. 11. The streets of Harbor Beach will be closed down to showcase all types of agriculture and farm equipment to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a free day of family fun.

The day will begin with a 5K run, 2 mile walk and a farm-related obstacle course beginning at 8:30 a.m. (registration at 7 a.m.; forms are available at city hall and at harborbeach.com). Proceeds go to Huron Area Technical Center Scholarship.

There will also be tours to a local dairy farm for a chance to learn about robotic milking systems and raising baby calves. Tour buses will leave Harbor Beach for a 2-hour tour at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. noon, 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.

On a tiling and drainage tour, attendees can watch a machine tile a field and learn about tile land grade mapping and why tiling is necessary to help farmers.

Other Ag Venture Day activities include agricultural educational booths and hands-on activities and kids games and inflatables as well as a pedal tractor pull.

Equipment demonstrations will be at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

On stage at 1:30 p.m. will be the kids mooing contest - “moo-ooooo” for a chance to win a prize.

The “Alan Turner & the Steel Horse Band” will provide country music during the day’s activities.

Event Chairperson and local farmer Darrin Siemen says, “Come meet your local farmers and find out where your food comes from.”
