HCCF awards scholarships

Courtesy photo Courtesy photo HURON COUNTY - The Huron County Community Foundation (HCCF) recently awarded an additional $12,070 in scholarships to Huron County college and non-traditional students. The recipients are students in their second through fourth years of college, students in graduate and medical school, and non-traditional students returning to college after a significant time gap. HCCF and its donors have awarded more than $97,000 this year to Huron County graduates seeking to continue their education at every phase of life. Anyone who knows a student who would qualify for one of the scholarships and/or would like to sign up for their newsletter on their website to be the first to know when they are accepting new applicants may see www.huroncountycommunityfoundation.org for a list of scholarships available and 2018 recipients. • CA Scheurer & BG Kamlapurker Medical School Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to Huron County High School graduates who are currently enrolled in medical school. Applicants are eligible for this award each year of medical school. This year’s recipients, each receiving a $1,170 scholarship, were Allison Guitar and Jamie Roggenubck.

• Kenneth W. Laughlin Scholarship

Established to assist Harbor Beach graduates who are now upperclassmen college students entering the field of Accounting; the Laughlin Scholarship is also available for each year of the students Accounting coursework. Travis Essenmacher, Nathan Guza and Taylor Hanson were this year’s award winners each receiving $1,630.

• Sarah Elizabeth Wood Scholarship

This award was created to provide financial support for Huron County graduates who are pursuing an advanced degree in schools of Pharmacy, Dentistry, Optometry, or Medicine. This year’s recipient is Henry Kozdron receiving a $2,865 scholarship.

• Harbor Beach Community Hospital and Hospital Foundation Medical Practitioners Scholarship

This scholarship was established as a partnership between HBCH and the HBCH Foundation to provide financial support to those seeking to increase their credential in the medical field. The recipient must live or work in the HBCH service area to be eligible. This year’s scholarship recipients are Allison Guitar, Henry Kozdron, Shannon Nowiski and Jamie Roggenbuck each receiving a $1,000 scholarship.

• Charles & Roseline Glinecki Memorial Scholarship

One of HCCF’s most unique scholarships, is designed to support Huron County graduates who have had a three year, or longer, gap in their education. This scholarship has been awarded to people who began college for the first-time years after completing their high school education, students who began college but were unable to finish, or those who are seeking a career change or an additional credential in their field. This year, the $1,235 award goes to Alicia Braun.
