64-year-old Caseville man beaten and robbed

LAKE TOWNSHIP – A 64-year-old Caseville man was left in his car, beaten, for more than an hour before he was found parked at an intersection – a robbery last week over personal items, prescription pills and $2, according to the Huron County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, the sheriff’s office and Scheurer Ambulance were dispatched to the intersection of Sand Road and Conkey Road in Lake Township, where a 26-yearold Caseville woman named Melissa R. Venturino had found Andres M. Camacho in his car, badly beaten, Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson told the VIEW.

Camacho was initially taken to Scheurer Hospital but later transferred to an outof county hospital for further treatment, Hanson said.

“As of today,” Hanson said on Monday, “he is still in the hospital and it isn’t known how much longer he’ll be there.”

After an initial investigation, the sheriff’s office determined Venturino and Camacho were acquaintances planning to meet at the intersection to smoke marijuana, Hanson said.

However, inconsistencies in Camacho’s and Venturino’s statements led to a search warrant being executed two days later at a residence in Harbor Beach, where Venturino had been staying. Personal property and a cell phone were seized, Hanson said.

“At this point in the investigation,” Hanson said, “it is believed the victim was assaulted and robbed by an unknown third person at the scene, who is male. It is further believed the assailant was specifically targeting the victim. Taken during the robbery were personal items, $2 in cash and prescription pills.”

Hanson said Camacho told deputies he did not know the assailant, though he has been able to remember more details of the assault as he recovers. The investigation is ongoing, assisted by the Caseville Police Department.
