Kinde Road closure info

HURON COUNTY – The Huron County Road Commission: Kinde Road, closed to thru traffic between Iseler Road and Huron City Road in Huron and Bloomfield townships is necessary due to bridge repairs being made; the project is expected to be complete by Saturday, July 20, 2019. HB farm market Christmas in July, July 19

HARBOR BEACH – Harbor Beach Farmer’s Market Christmas in July will take place Friday, July 19 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Organizers say, “Santa will be in attendance and extra gifts for shoppers!! Come and listen to some great music while visiting our vendors and word has it that ‘The Kiddie Train’ will be there, too!”

Hawaiian Luau, July 20

PT. AUSTIN – The American Legion Post 499, Pt. Austin, will host a Hawaiian Luau on Saturday, July 20 from 5 p.m. to close, open to the public, including ham dinner, ice luge, Tiki bar, costume contest and karaoke. Tickets will be sold at the door.

Scattered Souls, July 21

KINDE – The Scattered Souls of Pinnebog Reunion Committee announces the Sunday, July 21 reunion will be hosted at the former church rectory, 2510 Limerick Road, Kinde, and asks cash donations to help defray costs: meat for the potluck, liability insurance for the location, portable/mobile toilets and other miscellaneous expenses as well as setup and cleanup volunteers and a cantor to sing at the service. Rep. Green announces July office hours

THE THUMB – State Rep. Phil Green invites residents to attend his local office hours on Monday, July 22. Rep. Green will be available at the following times and locations: 11 a.m. to noon at Sebewaing Township Library, 41 N. Center St., Sebewaing; 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Reese Township Hall, 2073 Gates St., Reese; and 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Millington Arbela District Library, 8530 Depot St., Millington. USDA extends spring-seeded crops report deadline

E. LANSING – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) extended the deadline to file crop acreage reports for agricultural producers in Michigan impacted by flooding and heavy moisture. The new, Monday, July 22 deadline applies to reporting spring-seeded crops to USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) county offices and federal crop insurance agents. Producers filing reports with FSA county offices are encouraged to set up an appointment before visiting the office. Acreage reports from producers in Michigan who set up appointments before the Monday, July 22 deadline are considered timely filed, even if the appointment occurs after the deadline. Back-To-School Carnival

BAD AXE – Evangel Life Assembly of God (E-Life AG on 53) in Bad Axe is hosting its Second Annual Back-To-School Carnival on Wednesday, July 24. Last year, roughly 60 families received school supplies while they enjoyed free food, inflatables and carnival games. Organizers say that they are doing the event a little earlier this year so parents have time to get any last-minute supplies they may not have on hand. The event will feature carnival type activities, inflatables, hot dogs, cotton candy and popcorn. An area for nursery age kids to enjoy the activities will also be available. Parents with kids of all ages are welcome.

Free, educational outdoor day for youths, mentors, July 27

PT. HOPE – Grindstone Pt. Hope Sportsmen’s Club will present a free, educational outdoor day for youths, mentors, Saturday, July 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 6101 Huron City Road, Pt. Hope. Children must be accompanied by adult. Pre-register: 989-551-7063. The event includes gift giveaway, light lunch, drinks and snacks while supplies last. Other activities include discussion and presentations by several outdoor related organizations and an opportunity for a photo with a live, Bald eagle.

Midwife profession to require licensure

LANSING – In conjunction with the promulgation of administrative rules for the midwife profession, a license to practice midwifery in the state of Michigan will be required beginning Thursday, Aug. 1. LARA’s Midwifery website contains information on obtaining a midwife license, and a link to apply online, as well as instructional videos on how to register for an account through the Michigan Professional Licensing User System (MiPLUS). Individuals looking to hire a midwife will be able to verify the license status of the professional through LARA’s website to ensure the midwife meets the training and educational requirements for the profession established by the Michigan Board of Midwifery.
