HURON COUNTY – Michigan’s primary election took place Tuesday, with many state and local positions up for grabs. In the midst of a global pandemic, many voters chose to take the absentee ballot route. However, voters still showed up in person at polling locations across the county.

Here is a look at the unofficial results from all contested races in Huron County:

U.S. Congress 10th District

In the race for the Democratic nomination, Kimberly Bizon (D-Lexington) defeated Kelly L. Noland (D-Chesterfield) in Huron County 1,203 votes to 782. On the Republican side, Lisa McClain (R-Clinton Township) got the nod (2,623 votes) over Shane Hernandez (R-Port Huron) with 1,970 votes and Doug Slocum (R-Macomb) with 1,243. At the state level, Bizon defeated Noland 27,981 to 24,068; while McClain prevailed with 50,804 votes to 44,298 for Hernandez and 26,686 for Slocum.

State Representative 84th District

Two individuals squared off for the Democratic nomination, with Patrick J. Wood (D-Otisville) defeating Douglas P. Marker (D-Bay Port) 1,042 to 723. Final results at the state level saw Wood winning 3,018 to 1,869.

Colfax Township Supervisor

Douglas M. Gentner defeated Mike K. Smalley 185 to 109 for the Republican nomination. Gentner will run unopposed in November.

Fairhaven Township Supervisor

Brandon J. Swartzendruber received 80 votes to defeat Eric Thick (58) and Joel Bolzman (31) for the Republican nomination. Swartzendruber will face Democrat George Lauinger in November, who ran unopposed in the primary.

Meade Township Clerk

Melissa E. Periso secured 131 votes to defeat fellow Republicans Brenda K. VanBrande (69 votes) and AJ Rathje (17 votes). Periso will run unopposed in November.

Meade Township Treasurer

Barbara Carpenter defeated Diana M. Collins 165 to 56 for the Republican nomination. Carpenter will run unopposed in November.

Meade Township Trustee

For two trustee positions on the Republican side, Gregory Krozek (126 votes) and John Osentoski (117) got the nod over Paul A. Holz (99). The two will run unopposed in November.

Port Austin Township Trustee

Louis M. Schillinger (218 votes) and Ray M. Boswell (206) defeated Scott Kasper (178) in the Republican nomination. The two will face Democrat Diane M. Jodoin in the November election. Jodoin ran unopposed in the primary.

Sebewaing Township Treasurer

Judy Gregory came away with the Republican nomination, beating Amy S. Haag 413 to 140. Gregory will run unopposed in November.

Winsor Township Trustee

Two positions were up for grabs, with David McCormick (253 votes) and David Armbruster (252), defeating Robin Buschlen (103). The two will run unopposed in November.
