SEBEWAING – Christ the King Lutheran School (CTK) students participated in a Scheurer program. CTK 3rd grade teacher Deb Kundinger invited Katie Verhaar, Mandy Brondyke and Michael Mandich Jr., to teach head and spinal cord injury prevention. Throughout the six-week course, students were given strategies to prevent injuries to the head and spinal cord. The program also showed how to be safe on bikes, in the water, on a playground, in vehicles and around guns. Students were given a properly-sized bicycle helmet. Two students, Evan Foley and LeEtta Bohn, were given a brand-new bicycle.
CTK Principal David Kaiser said, “CTK is thankful for our ongoing partnership with Schuerer Hospital. Scheurer Hospital is taking a proactive approach to reducing head and spinal cord injuries that could be prevented. By having the students think through what could happen before they begin an activity, the hospital is showing they care about the welfare of the children in Sebewaing and Unionville. Providing two bicycles is an added bonus for the children. It also caused a great deal of smiles to occur as well. Christ the King would like to thank Schuerer Hospital for their continued community support.”
