DRAYTON PLAINS – On Sunday, Nov. 4, members of the local area Thumb Chapter 178 (pictured here) joined with Blue Star Mother Chapters from across the State of Michigan attending the rededication and memorial service for all who served in World War II. Thumb Chapter 178 member Pat Rogers stated that, in 1948, The Blue Star Mother Chapter 10 dedicated a Monument honoring men and women in Drayton Plains who devotedly served their country in World War II and for those who gave their lives that freedom might reign. The original location was at a school that is now no longer a functioning school. The company that bought the building didn’t want that monument on the grounds and were going to destroy it. The family members of the Blue Star Mothers objected to the monument being destroyed and set about to find a permanent location to place the Monument. Donations were received for the moving of the Monument. The Monument has been relocated to a cemetery in Drayton Plains.
