Thumb Dance dates

SANDUSKY – The Thumb Dance will be held 4-7:30 p.m. on Sept. 22 at the Knights of Columbus, 145 W. Wedge Road, in Sandusky.

Please bring a snack to share or a dish to pass. It’s a great place to celebrate a birthday or anniversary. Great fellowship, live music, and good food all for only $5. Come join us.

Casino bus trip set

HURON COUNTY – The Kinde Seniors are sponsoring its monthly, one-day chartered bus trip to the Soaring Eagle Casino, in Mount Pleasant, Sept. 22 and Oct. 27.

The cost is $45 per person and you receive a payback of up to $60.

Soybean Variety Trial Day set

SANDUSKY – Michigan State University Extension and local field crops educators will be hosting a Soybean Variety Trial Field Day at the MSU Soybean Variety Trial Plot in Sanilac County 4-6 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 26.

Come walk the plot and speak with MSU Soybean Variety Trial Coordinator, Randy Laurenz, MSU Soybean Breeder, Dr. Dechun Wang, and local field crops educators Jenna Falor and Phil Kaatz. This field day is a casual come and go as you please event with light refreshments.

This plot provides much to see. There are 127 commercial varieties from 17 companies as well as 33 promising lines from MSU for you to view. The relative maturity of beans in the plot span from 1.1 to 3.1 and includes conventional, glyphosate-resistant, Enlist E3, Extend Flex and GT27/LL varieties.

The plot is hosted by Rick Gerstenberger and is located just east of his farm (420 E. Forester Road, Sandusky) on the southwest corner of Banner and Forester Roads, approximately four miles northeast of Sandusky. We ask that you park along the side of Banner Road.

Poll watcher training

BAD AXE – A poll watcher/poll challenger training will take place 6 p.m. Sept. 28 at the Franklin Inn, located at 1070 E. Huron Ave. The Zoom class will be presented by Morgan Ray.

Quilt Guild to meet

PIGEON – Beginning in August, The Thumb Area Quilt Guild’s monthly meeting has been held in the community room at 2:30 p.m. the third Monday of the month at the Pigeon Library. Note that this is a change in location and time.

There is a brief meeting followed by show and tell. Quilters of all skill levels are welcome to attend.

Classical Guitar Concert, Oct. 1

PORT HOPE – A William Henry Russell Classical Guitar Concert will take place 7-8:30 p.m. Sat., Oct. 1, at St. John Lutheran School, 7885 State St., Port Hope, by freewill offering.

Tip of the Thumb Dancers

BAD AXE – The Tip of the Thumb Dancers will host a dance, 7-10 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Huron County Senior Center, 150 Nugent Road., in Bad Axe.

Local pop-up food pantries

HURON COUNTY – Here are the upcoming pop-up food pantries that will be available in the county:

• 10 a.m. Oct. 8 at Lakers Elementary School, 6436 Pigeon Road, Pigeon, MI 48755.

Apple pie fundraiser

KINDE – North Huron Schools are having an apple pie fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, with pick-up at the school cafeteria.

Fresh, homemade pies are $15 each, with the money going toward student trips, activities and assemblies. Please make checks payable to North Huron Schools. Order forms are due by Thursday, Sept. 29.

Scary fun at Columbia Twp. Library

COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP – From 5-7 p.m. Mon., Oct. 17, Columbia Township Library will host a Psychic Fair, pricing and style dependent upon the psychic reader, starting at $20 each.

At 7 p.m. there will be a paranormal presentation with Tri-City Ghost Hunters Society and author of “Haunted Bay City, Michigan,” Nicole Beauchamp. Book sales and signing available. Info: 989-674-2651.

Food pantry in Ubly

UBLY – Good Shepherd Parish in Ubly has a food pantry (sponsored by the Knights of Columbus) available to anyone in need.

The pantry is open 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Thursday at 1935 Hamilton St., in Ubly.
