LOST: A Man’s Hat

Dear Editor,

Our friend, Don, and his son came from Southwest Michigan to hunt ducks on Saginaw Bay. On Friday, they had a pretty good day. On Saturday, everything went wrong. They chose to put in near Wild Fowl Bay in spite of the shore ice. The propellor came off; Don pulled the boat out and when he set about to fix the prop, he took off his hat so he could put a face mask on. He couldn’t fix the prop; decided to come back to Sebewaing for parts and/or help. the group left the Wild Fowl Bay area; Don forgot to pick up his hat and nearing Sebewaing, on M-25, he remembered. They turned around and searched the shoulders of the road all the way back, then all the way to Sebewaing again. Don figured the wind took it off the seat of the boat near Filion Road and M-25. After commiserating with us, they took another trip back to WFB, searching the shoulders. What you need to understand is that this hat is 29 years old; it has been Don’s companion on every hunting trip he took (ducks, pheasant, elk, deer) for all those 29 years. He only wears it for hunting; it is like a trophy to him. The hat is greenish felt, muted camouflage pattern, with a brown, leather band. He lovingly calls it his “Stetson,” but it is not the typical wide-brim Stetson. Please, if you find, or have found, his hat, I’m sure he would give a reward to get it back. We’d even pay you $5 to return it to us. Thank you very much. Our phone number is (989) 883-9889.
